Bushrod Doggett
Revolutionary War Patriot
North Carolina Continental Line

born:  1760               in Rutherford, North Carolina
died:  25 Jul 1829     in Rutherford, North Carolina
married:                    Susannah Davis

ABOUT:

Revolutionary soldier, arm broken in service; died North Carolina, July 26, 1829

Note below by Charles Smith descendant of Doggett lineage:

This particular Bushrod Doggett is buried at Tanners Grove Methodist Church cemetery south of Forest City, NC. His grave marker states that he was a Private in the 1st Continental Lines in the Revolutionary War. His dates are 1760 to 1829. He was granted 200(?)acres of land along Floyds Creek in what was then Tryon County (now Rutherford County) for service in the war. The Doggett family still lives there. Records of this land transaction and other Doggett data is in either the Rutherford County Court House or an office of old Tryon County records in Forest City. I don't remember which, but they're there.

Bushrod's mother probably never came to Tryon County since it was frontier in 1760, and Bushrod probably didn't come until he claimed the land. William Tapp (originally Taptico) was of the Wicocomico branch of the Powhatan Nation in tidewater Virginia, so the dalliance spoken of in this forum probably occurred in Virginia.

This information comes via Charlie Smith who is descended from Bushrod's son, George Chatman D., his gSon, Elias Ross Doggett, his great great granddaughter Minnie Ross D. Henderson, whose daughter Willilee Henderson was my mother.
